In April 2021 consumer prices in the United States for various types of goods and services increased by 0.8% on average compared to March, although experts had expected an increase of no more than 0.2%. To date, inflation in the country has reached 4.2% (experts expected the level to be no higher than 3.6%). This figure has become a record since the last financial crisis in the country, which happened in 2008.

The reason for the rapid rise in prices was the increase in demand for most groups of goods. It was caused by the weakening of quarantine measures due to a decrease in the number of coronavirus infections in the country.

How has the standard of living of Americans changed in 2021?

In a recent survey Americans rated their satisfaction with their standard of living:

  • 57% said they consider their current financial position “good” or “excellent”;
  • 52% said that their wealth is growing steadily.

Last year, these figures were lower by about 10%. In this case, an important role was played by the fact that the spending of the population during the period of strict quarantine decreased, people began to spend their capital more carefully.
